Polymerized Gum Rosin

Polymerized rosins are derivatives obtained by cationic dimerization of part of the resin acids present in the natural rosin.
The main characteristic, compared to natural rosin is its higher softening point and this value depends on the concentration of dimers (and some trimers).
The higher the percentage of dimers, the higher the softening point.
The main use for this type of resins is the production of high melting point esters that need good compatibility with polymers and other low polarity ingredients.
Polymerized/Dimerized Gum Rosin is also used in highly specialized formulations where the presence of di-acids is important.
